In the dreamy aethers of the food magazine that is Lucky Peach, Randy Krishna’s is an entirely logical concept. To celebrate the magazine’s fantasy issue launch where chefs dream up unrealistic dining concepts, Randy Krishna’s made it off the printed pages and into real life as a one-night pop up Indian steakhouse restaurant.
Hosted at the newly opened East Village spot Babu Ji, the temporary restaurant inside a restaurant brought two seating’s full of pre-sold tickets for guests to experience this one of a kind, once in a lifetime meal prepared by chef Akhtar Nawab.
The tables were filled to the edge with family style plates: tandoori Ribeye, Biryani Onion Rings, Aloo Bhaji Hashbrowns, and Creamed Saag served with Tiger Lager.
Trends on Trends styled the space and table by combining the ironic sentiment of the meal with Lucky Peach’s wit and traditional Indian restaurant décor. Comic books of Indian gods were used as playful conversation starters on a table with beaded and embroidered sari runners as strung carnations draped from the ceiling and the bar.
